Biohazard/Trauma Cleanup

What are Biohazards?

Biohazard waste is defined as any waste that contains infectious or possibly infectious substances. There are many types of biohazard waste. Some of the common types are human blood, human body fluids and excretions, and animal waste. Exposure to biohazard waste can lead to many illnesses as well as death to humans.

Where may I be exposed to biohazard waste?

There are many places you can be exposed to biohazard waste. High risk areas include flood disaster areas, sewage backups in your home or place of business, construction sites, vehicle accidents, homicide/suicide/trauma scenes, or homes or buildings containing gross filth. Biohazard waste can also become airborne in these places and enter through the respiratory track of your eyes, nose and throat.

Why can’t I do biohazard cleanup on my own?

Regulations, state and federal laws and industry standards have been developed to protect your health and safety and govern biohazard cleanup. These entities include the EPA, DOT, OSHA, and the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification).

STOP maintains the proper certifications, training, specialty equipment and industry knowledge to complete many types of biohazard cleanup in a professional and safe manner. STOP specializes in flood, sewage, gross filth and trauma cleanup.

Once a property has been treated for hazards and is certified as safe, STOP will restore the home or business to its pre-incident condition. This includes all aspects of the reconstruction – flooring, drywall, trim, painting, subfloor replacement, etc.
